Vito R. Derrico of Johnstown, passed away peacefully at home on November 11, 2013, after suffering many years with COPD. Vito was born in Gloversville, N.Y. on May 1, 1947, the son of the late Pasquale and Jennie Derrico.

Vito was a graduate of Fulton-Montgomery Community College. Vito worked at Milligan Higgins for 15 years. After graduation from FMCC, he worked as mental health counselor at Fulton-Friendship House and retired from Mohawk Opportunities of Schenectady. Vito will be remembered as the “Cookie Mom” of his daughter’s Brownie Troop 512. He was a devoted father, volunteering as a chaperone whenever necessary and attending all of his children’s baseball and football games, band concerts and school plays.

Vito is survived by his wife, Marjorie (Foster), whom he married on October 19, 1968. They had 45 wonderful years together. He is also survived by his daughter, Sandra (Daniel) Saletnik of Langhorne, Pa.; and his son, Mark (Nicole) of Gloversville. “Nunno,” as he was known by his grandchildren, is survived by Daniel Vito Saletnik and Alexander Vito Saletnik of Langhorne, Pa., Evelyn Grace Derrico of Gloversville, Maya Rae Derrico of Omaha, Neb. and stepgrandson, Collin Thorn of Gloversville. He was predeceased by his parents; his brother, Pasquale Derrico and his grandson, Canden Vito Derrico. Vito is also survived by his special cousin, Anthony Fox; several aunts, uncles and many cousins; and several nieces and nephews.

At Vito’s request, there will be no viewing hours. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at the John W. Finocan Funeral Home Inc., 13 Prospect Ave., Gloversville. Interment will take place in the Mount Carmel Cemetery, Johnstown, N.Y.
