Dorothy Abbas Hummel was born on August 28, 1914 in Kandiyohi County, Minnesota. She moved to St. Paul to become the social maid for Governor Alexander Ramsey’s granddaughters in the Alexander Ramsey House. While working there, she met and married Charles Hummel who was the Ramsey’s granddaughter’s grocery boy. They had one daughter, Kathleen. She worked at Schuneman’s Department Store while her husband served in WWII. Dorothy was employed by 3M (Sun Ray Division) for most of her working years. After retirement she was manager of a women’s department at Van Arsdell’s. |
