The Senior Center is now at the Mather Community Center, in the same building as Town Hall at 2 Renshaw Rd. (lower front parking lot).

LEARN MORE TO BREATH BETTER: VISITING NURSE AND HOSPICE OF FAIRFIELD COUNTY
Wednesday, October 1 12:00 at the Darien Senior Program at Mather Center 2 Renshaw Road
COPD is a serious lung disease that over time, makes it hard to breathe. You may also have heard COPD called other names, like emphysema or chronic bronchitis. In people who have COPD, the airwaysâtubes that carry air in and out of your lungsâare partially blocked, which makes it hard for air to get in and out. When COPD is severe, shortness of breath and other symptoms of COPD can get in the way of even the most basic tasks, such as doing light housework, taking a walk, even washing and dressing. A Nurse from VNH of Fairfield County will present ways to learn more and breath better while living with COPD.

PILATES
Tuesdayâs Beginning October 7th at the Darien Senior Program at Mather Center 2 Renshaw Road
Beginning October 7th, due to its popularity, Elizabeth Hall will be teaching a Pilates class in addition to the Thursdayclass. If you are over 50, Pilates is a great way to increase your strength, flexibility, balance and coordination. Pilates is regarded as an ideal exercise regime for people in or over their 50âs due to its low-impact exercises. The benefits of Pilates for more mature people include: improved posture, stamina and strength, along with improving balance and reducing your risk of falls. Whatever your size, strength or endurance, Pilates is beneficial for anyone. If you are suffering from arthritis, postural difficulties or bone density problems, Pilates might also help you. Class is $4.00

What is Hospice? Hospice is a philosophy of care that focuses on patient comfort rather than curing illnesses. It is the most common form of palliative care available. Comfort care is all-encompassing, treating pain and physical symptoms as well as emotional, social, and spiritual symptoms. Treating the whole person is essential to patient comfort. Vitas Innovative Hospice Care will sponsor this informative program. A complimentary lunch will be served immediately following.
BEGINNER BALLET
Wednesdays 9:00-9:50 at the Darien Senior Program at Mather Center 2 Renshaw Road
Beginning Wednesday, October 8th Elizabeth Hall will begin a new beginner ballet class. Class is geared towards seniors with no prior knowledge or memory of ballet or its vocabulary. Seniors wishing to begin ballet or resume their study of it following many years away from the studio, this class is the ideal pace, size, and instruction! $4.00.
PLEASURE THROUGH PLANTS: GARDEN CLUB OF DARIEN
Wednesday, October 8th 10:00 a.m. at the Darien Senior Program at Mather Center 2 Renshaw Road
A group of dedicated volunteers from the Garden Club of Darien will lead a flower arranging class each month called âPleasure through Plants.â They graciously provide all the flowers and the containers to highlight occasions or special holiday themes that month. They also offer instructions on making arrangements as well as valuable information on the flowers used at each class. Class size is limited – sign up required.
VISIT FROM STATE SENATOR BOB DUFF

On Thursday, October 9th at 11:30 a.m., State Senator Bob Duff, D-Norwalk, will be at the Darien Senior Program at the Mather Center for lunch and conversation. Some of the topics Duff will touch on will be how the latest Connecticut budget and legislation will help seniors. There will also be a question-and- answer session. OKTOBERFEST!
Tuesday, October 14th 12:00 at the Darien Senior Program at Mather Center 2 Renshaw Road
Ach, Du Lieber! A little bit of Germany comes to the Darien Senior Activities Center! The Chris and Ronnie Band will be here to celebrate Oktoberfest in grand style! Chris and Ronnie will perform musical features like the Beer Barrel Polka, The Happy Wanderer, Muss I Denn, Edelweiss, Ach Du Lieber Augustine and much, much more. So come bring your German Cowbells and enjoy the journey to an authentic German Oktoberfest! The Chris and Ronnie Band have performed all over Connecticut including last yearâs Oktoberfest at the Darien Social. It will be sure to be fun! German fare lunch will be served ($4.00) at noon and entertainment will begin at 12:30. Please make lunch reservations. 203-656-7490
