The American Lung Association in West Virginia is sponsoring the 2014 Respiratory Rally, a one-day conference for lung disease patients, caregivers and supporters, on Tuesday, October 28h at CAMC’s Heart Fit Center located on 3200 Chesterfield Ave. in Charleston. The rally, which is supported by the GlaxoSmithKline, the West Virginia Asthma Coalition, Charleston Area Medical Center and Baxter, will start at 9 a.m. and last until 2 p.m.

The theme of the Rally, again this year, is, Hall-O-Wheeze. Patients, supporters, vendors and volunteers are encouraged to dress in Halloween costumes and decorate their booth spaces and respiratory equipment. The Rally’s goal is to provide an exchange of information for those affected by lung disease so they can gain the tools necessary to improve daily living. Short presentations will be offered on topics such as, Eating Right, Tai-Chi Stretching, COPD and lung cancer, and getting the most from your meds. Numerous free health screenings will be provided throughout the day as well, through the generosity of the University of Charleston’s School of Pharmacy.

Also taking place during the event, a free workshop for people affected by lung cancer. Fundamental information about the most current lung cancer treatments, strategies for symptom/side-effect management and tools for survivorship will be discussed at the Respiratory Rally from 11:00 am to 1:00pm. Lung cancer patients, family members, and caregivers are welcome.

Lung disease is the third leading cause of death in the U.S. and includes asthma, COPD, lung cancer and a host of other respiratory disease. The event is free for patients and caregivers. Door prizes will be awarded throughout the day and grand prizes will be given for the best costume and best decorated equipment. Through generous donations from our funders, breakfast and lunch will be provided. For more information contact Chantal Fields at (304) 342-6600 or cfields@lunginfo.org.
