LOUISE GENEVIEVE SHERMAN
PRECOURT, 83

WINTER HAVEN – Louise Genevieve Sherman Precourt, 83, passed away from COPD at Winter Haven Hospital on March 9 2014.
Louise was born in Allenton, Wisconsin and was a graduate of Stevens Point College. She began her career as a one room school teacher (K – 8th grade) and was beloved by all her students there. As the wife of an aerospace engineer (her beloved husband Dick) she moved her family from Madison, WI to Milwaukee to Boston, MA to Pascagoula, MS to Largo, Florida to Minneapolis, MN to Thousand Oaks, CA to Winter Haven, FL where they retired in 1995. While tending to a family with 5 children, she always set up home wherever his career opportunities led her. While in California, when her children were grown, she took up her own career as a teacher of developmentally disabled adults, some of whom would have ended up in the State Hospital if not for her skill at gaining their trust and teaching them basic life skills.
She was always active in the local Catholic church as a Sunday school teacher, choir member, Eucharistic minister, sometimes all at the same time. When they retired to Cypress Woods golf club community in 1995, she displayed a talent for golf that enabled her to win the Club Championship for her handicap group. While living in Winter Haven for 19 years, she continued her charity work, counseling unwed mothers and helping with the church thrift shop.
Those of you who knew Louise knew her true spirit and thirst for life. She affected so many lives in a positive way, and leaves a trail of cherished family members and friends across the country. She lived a code, “They will know we are Christians by our love…”. This was her conviction, and she lived it.
Louise is survived by her husband of 59 years Richard “Dick”, her sons David (Denise) Largo, Doug (Krista) Moorpark CA, Daniel (Julie) Clermont and daughter Christine Frazier (Don) Auburndale and was preceded in death by her daughter Constance “Connie” in 2005. She has 15 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
A funeral Mass will be March 29, 2014 at Saint Matthews Catholic church in Winter Haven at 11:30am. After Mass, her ashes will be interred at a Columbarium in a garden behind the church. A donation to the Meals on Wheels ( www.mowaa.org ) can be given in lieu of flowers.
