Press Release
With 24 days of hearings held since April 26th, 2013 and five more scheduled for January and February of 2014, Costco’s special exception bid for a gas station in Wheaton is inching closer to Montgomery County’s all-time record of 34 days spent on the Suburban Hospital expansion project.
After Costco’s case in chief wrapped up in early December, community’s opposition case continues tomorrow, January 10th, and will concentrate on the potential health effects of placing the busiest gas station in Montgomery County a mere 118ft from single-family residences and not much further from an outdoor community swimming & tennis club and the down-county school for medically fragile children with special needs, including oxygen tanks and mechanical respirators.
The day will be spent on testimony from residents and opposition experts, including:
Dr. Maria L. Jison, MD, FCCP
Board certified in Pulmonary Disease, Critical Care and Internal Medicine, a specialist in the diagnosis and treatment of lung illnesses, with a special interest in caring for patients with Asthma, COPD and chronic cough.
Dr. Patrick N. Breysse, PhD, CIH
Full professor, Department of Environmental Health Sciences, Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health; professor, School of Medicine, Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine; professor, School of Engineering, Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering with nearly 30 years of experience conducting research and environmental health practice with a particular focus on indoor and outdoor air pollution.
Hearings are open to the public, run all day starting at 9:30am, with a break for lunch at the County Council Building, 100 Maryland Ave, Rockville, MD.
